Our chalets are nestled in the dunes- or Towans in Cornish- that curve around the 3 miles of sugary sand covered beach that stretches from Hayle River to Godrevy Lighthouse, overlooking St Ives bay. The beach is only a few minutes walk across the park and likely to be the reason why you're staying with us, whether you're a water baby, sun worshipper, avid walker or just a lover of Vitamin Sea, it can offer it all.
It feels like the Caribbean on a hot summers day, our children used to love the shallow pools that would warm up in the sun. On a blustery day the kite surfers are usually out at the Hayle end, filling the sky with their coloured kites and wings. For surfing jump in the car and it's 15 minutes to Gwithian. It never gets truly crowded and a short walk is rewarded with plenty of space to set up for a blissful beach day. It's of course still beautiful in Autumn and Spring when you can be the only people there- we also have a an annual New Year's Day dip- a great start to the year with the reward of a hot shower back at the beach huts!
The dunes themselves have a few stories, the chalets were built by Miners from Camborne for their summer holidays, often from reclaimed materials, old railway carriages and shepherd's huts. Further along there are the remains of the old dynamite factory, now just ruins, being reclaimed by nature. Much of the Towans is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and nature reserve. If you fancy it, it is about an hours walk from the Chalets along the length of the beach for breakfast or lunch at one of the cafes at Gwithian ( Sunset Surf, The Jampot, Godrevy Beach Cafe or Chomp. ) Or you can skip the walk and settle into the wonderful Cove Cafe overlooking the beach and few minutes walk from the Chalets.
Once you have enjoyed the day either chilling at the Beach or exploring what this end of Cornwall has to offer, one of the best evening treats must be taking a drink down to the sea and watching the sun set over the ocean.....maybe a last swim if the tide is in....total heaven.
